Global Recycled Standard (GRS)
Genesis Footwear is distributed by Hüsken Distribution, a company certified under the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). GRS is an internationally recognized standard developed by Textile Exchange. It verifies not only the use of recycled material, but also the entire supply chain behind it, and ensures that minimum social and environmental standards are met, including chemical management and working conditions. The certification is monitored by an independent auditing body and reconfirmed annually. For us, GRS is more than a label, it is the first step toward certifying our individual products, one by one, with full evidence.
BSCI-Certified Suppliers & Producers
Some of our production partners are members of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) and are audited by independent bodies as part of this system. BSCI is an initiative of amfori that supports companies in improving social standards across global supply chains. Its code of conduct is based on the conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and the OECD Guidelines for Responsible Business Conduct. The audits assess, among other things, working hours, fair pay, health and safety in the workplace, and the prevention of child and forced labor.
Certified Packaging
Each pair of Genesis sneakers is packaged in a box and a reusable bag. Our boxes are made without any glue. Instead, a folding technique provides the necessary stability, which also makes later recycling easier. The paper used for our boxes has been tested for harmful substances by an independent testing institute, including REACH relevant substances and PFAS. The bag is designed to be reused multiple times, rather than being thrown away right after unpacking.
OLEATEX®
Some Genesis sneaker models use OLEATEX®, an innovative vegan alternative to conventional leather made from olive industry by-products. OLEATEX® itself is certified under several internationally recognized standards that confirm its bio-based content, vegan composition, and material quality. These include OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, USDA Certified Bio-Based Product, DIN Geprüft Bio-Based Product, V-Label Vegan, and PETA-Approved Vegan. By using certified materials such as OLEATEX®, we rely on alternatives that combine functionality, transparency, and responsible sourcing.
