We believe that responsible action takes more than good intentions – it takes proof. That's why at Genesis, we don't just rely on sustainable materials, but continuously have our standards reviewed and certified by independent third parties.

We're constantly working to expand our portfolio of certifications, creating transparency across our entire supply chain – from raw material sourcing to the finished product. Every certification we earn is another step towards fashion that doesn't just sound sustainable, but is proven to be.

Global Recycled Standard (GRS)

Genesis Footwear is certified as a company to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), an internationally recognised standard developed by Textile Exchange. GRS verifies not only the use of recycled material, but the entire supply chain behind it.

The certification ensures that social and environmental minimum standards are upheld, including chemical management and working conditions. Every step is monitored by an independent certification body and reconfirmed annually.

For us, GRS is more than a label: it's the first step on our path to certifying our products, one by one.

BSCI-Certified Suppliers & Producers

Genesis Footwear works only with manufacturing companies that are certified members of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). Our production partners are regularly audited to ensure compliance with internationally recognised social standards, including fair working conditions and ethical business practices.

The BSCI is an amfori initiative that supports companies in improving social standards across global supply chains. Its Code of Conduct is based on ILO conventions, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and OECD guidelines for responsible business conduct. Independent audits assess areas such as working hours, fair remuneration, health and safety, and the prevention of child and forced labour.

Certified Packaging

Every pair of Genesis sneakers is packed in FSC-certified cardboard boxes and reusable GOTS-certified cotton dust bags.  Our sneaker boxes are made from 100% recycled cardboard and are designed without glue. Instead, an innovative folding technique provides the necessary stability while making the packaging easier to recycle. To further support recyclability, the boxes are printed exclusively with water-based inks.  The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification ensures that the cardboard used for our packaging comes from responsibly managed sources. Likewise, the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification guarantees that the cotton used for our dust bags is organically grown and processed according to strict environmental and social criteria throughout the supply chain.

OLEATEX®

Some Genesis sneaker models feature OLEATEX®, a next-generation vegan leather alternative made from olive industry by-products.  OLEATEX® itself is certified to several internationally recognised standards that verify its bio-based content, vegan composition, and material safety. These certifications include OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, USDA Certified Bio-Based Product, DIN Geprüft Bio-Based Product, V-Label Vegan, and PETA-Approved Vegan.  By choosing certified materials, we continue to explore lower-impact alternatives that combine performance, transparency, and responsible sourcing.
